RESPEC recently was awarded a contract with the City of Sioux Falls to develop a watershed master plan for the Central Big Sioux River. A major challenge faced by decision makers within the Central Big Sioux River Watershed (CBSRW) is how to select the best combination of practices to implement among the many options available that will result in the most cost-effective, achievable, and practical management strategy possible. A watershed-scale, decision-support framework that is based on cost optimization is being developed to support government and local watershed planning agencies as they coordinate watershed-scale investments to achieve needed improvements in water quality. This decision-support framework will assist in developing the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) implementation plan, identifying management practices to achieve pollutant reductions under a municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) stormwater permit, and developing a phased Best Management Plan ( BMP) installation plan that is optimized for both cost- and water-quality effectiveness. |

RESPEC recently signed a contract with the West River Water Development District to develop Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for the White River and the Little White River in South Dakota for both fecal coliform and E. coli bacteria. RESPEC will develop a Hydrologic Simulation Program Fortran (HSPF) model for the White River Watershed to predict bacteria loadings to assist in allocating loads to land use practices and evaluating implementation scenarios. |

RESPEC recently received two contracts to perform water rights work for the City of Rapid City. The first contract will involve providing an engineering report, preliminary pipeline design, and necessary technical support to the City, enabling them to transfer a water right from a downstream user to the City’s intake galleries. The second contract will involve validating an existing water right held by the City’s wastewater treatment plant. |

RESPEC was awarded its first work order under our Master Services Contract with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) for Watershed Restoration and Protection. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires the MPCA to carry out the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) program in the state of Minnesota. Minnesota has an abundance of lakes and river reaches, many of which will require a TMDL study. In an effort to expedite the completion of TMDL projects, the MPCA has decided to construct watershed models. These models have the potential to support the simultaneous development of TMDL studies for multiple listings within a cataloging unit or 8-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) watershed. This first work order for the development of watershed models is for the Sauk River, Crow River (including North Fork), and South Fork Crow River. |
