Job Description: A nationally recognized engineering consulting company with international projects seeks an experienced individual to assist in geotechnical evaluations and in expanding the company’s capabilities in geoengineering. The company’s projects generally are in the areas of rock mechanics and materials testing and include structural, hydrogeological, and thermal analysis of underground structures. Secondary activities include field investigations of surface and subsurface mining problems; hydrogeological testing and analysis; slope stability, subsidence, and other conventional geotechnical analyses; and installation of rock mechanics and hydrogeological instrumentation and analysis of the measurements. The company’s projects typically exclude soil mechanics, foundations, and construction. The applicant should possess a background in the oil and gas industry, mining industry, or other fields related to geoengineering. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of experienced engineering staff in these areas. The individual will be located in Rapid City, South Dakota, with modest travel associated with the position.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor of science degree in mining, geological/geotechnical, civil, or mechanical engineering with a strong background in rock mechanics and 4 to 8 years of experience. The applicant should possess knowledge in computer-aided modeling, well log interpretation, field instrumentation, and mechanical behavior of geological materials. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
