Job Description: RESPEC, an internationally recognized engineering consulting firm with both domestic and international projects, seeks a Principal Consultant to join its growing mine-design and ground-control team to support underground mines in salt, potash, and other soft or hard rocks. This consulting position requires relevant training and experience in RESPEC’s general areas of expertise in rock mechanics and mining engineering. Specific expertise in underground construction and storage would supplement these general technical areas; this expertise includes special-purpose opening and cavern design, ground-support inspections and rehabilitation design, rock mechanics numerical analysis, and geotechnical instrumentation and data analysis. The position is in RESPEC’s Corporate Headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota. Travel to client mine sites and meetings will be required, but long-term assignment is not anticipated.

Qualifications: The successful candidate is expected to have at least a master of science degree in mining, geological, or civil engineering and 10 years of experience in either similar consulting or actual underground mining. Direct experience in the geotechnical aspects of mine design is preferred. Because face-to-face contact with a variety of clients is essential, the candidate must have both excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. While an existing client base already exists, the successful candidate will become ever more involved with and responsible for business development (technical presentations and proposals).

Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise. ENGINEERING INTERN

Job Description: A nationally recognized engineering consulting firm seeks a water resources intern to formulate and facilitate the growth of a water and natural resources business. The company specializes in applying technology to solve problems. The successful candidate will work under the direction of multiple Project Managers in the areas of computer programming, watershed modeling, and general problem solving. Typical projects will include MATLAB scripting by using Geographic Information System (GIS) software, data analysis, and watershed modeling.

Qualifications: The successful candidate should have a freshman standing or higher in computer engineering or science, civil (water resources), environmental, geological, or a related science field. The candidate must have proven interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of MATLAB software is preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include experience in graphical user interface development and large dataset processing.

Compensation: Hourly wage depends on education and experience in addition to statutory insurance requirements.
