RESPEC actively seeks a motivated and talented professional for a geomechanical engineer position in our Mining & Engineering business unit.

This position requires demonstrated working knowledge of engineering principles and business practices to successfully plan and execute a diverse range of geotechnical projects. Projects include structural, hydrogeological, and thermal analyses of underground excavations; field investigations of surface and subsurface mines; installation of rock mechanics and hydrogeological instrumentation along with the analysis of measurement data; assessment of ground-support systems; and slope stability, subsidence, and other conventional geotechnical analyses.

The geomechanical engineer will be responsible for the complete life of projects—from proposal development through successful project execution— while staying on schedule and within budget under limited supervision. The engineer will be involved in multiple projects simultaneously; therefore, well-developed time management skills and the ability to independently prioritize competing project demands while balancing business objectives and client expectations are required. Qualifications: The candidate must have a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, civil, geological/geotechnical, or mining engineering from an Accredited Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) with 5–15 years of related engineering experience and a strong background in rock mechanics. Advanced degrees are preferred. The position requires applicable working knowledge of modern computer-aided engineering (CAE) software programs, high-performance computing (HPC) systems, and computer programming in a standardized language; specifically, as their use applies to numerical modeling in geoengineering applications.

The candidate must have proven interpersonal skills and excellent technical communication skills (both written and oral) and be fluent in English.  Additional qualifications include the following:

  • Strong working knowledge in modern software programs for professional office activities (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet calculations, and email)
  • Strong working knowledge of CAE software programs for engineering applications
  • Working knowledge of mechanical behavior of geological materials
  • Experience in materials testing and constitutive models of geomaterials
  • Experience in working with various types of ground-support systems.

Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise .
