Job Description: RESPEC has an opening for a temporary part-time engineering intern in the Mining & Energy Division in the Rapid City, South Dakota, office. The intern will be expected to work an average of 10 to 20 hours per week. Primary activities include numerical analysis of underground structures, engineering support, and data analysis. Supplemental activities may involve design and assessment of ground support systems, conventional geotechnical analyses and mine planning. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of experienced engineering staff in these areas. 

Qualifications: The successful candidate must be working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in geological, mechanical, mining, or civil engineering. The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in geological, mechanical, mining, or civil engineering, and should be enrolled in a university pursuing an advanced degree in rock mechanics, mining engineering or related field. Strong computer skills, especially in using finite element software, spreadsheets and structural analysis software are required.  The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally, and be self-motivated.

Compensation: Hourly wage depends on education and experience, plus statutory insurance requirements.
