Throughout the year, RESPEC offers customizable, advanced software training workshops in the US EPA’s Better Assessment Science Integrating Point and Nonpoint Sources (BASINS) and Hydrological Simulation Program–FORTRAN (HSPF). The professional training format is an intensive five-day educational program for participants working in the field of water quality and management. As a comprehensive training, our expert trainers provide a proven blend of model understanding and model application instruction. The BASINS/HSPF training covers the breadth and complexity of the application and ensures that attendees have an opportunity to be “up and running” for a specific need. Attendees experience hands-on computer sessions with regard to the specific applications and are encouraged to ask questions.
Long-time experts guide participants in learning modeling and various applications for HSPF, the primary watershed model included in the EPA BASINS modeling system. HSPF is a comprehensive watershed model of hydrology and water quality that simulates land surface and subsurface hydrologic and water-quality processes that are linked and closely integrated with corresponding stream and reservoir processes. BASINS is a multipurpose, environmental analysis system designed to help regional, state, and local agencies perform watershed- and water quality-based studies.
RESPEC’s advanced software training is offered by engineering experts for engineers. As the only company to offer this training, we feature many tools that we have developed to support the attendees’ informed and expedient use of BASINS/HSPF. Application support tools include:
- An enhanced expert system for hydrologic and water quality calibration (HSPEXP+);
- A Windows-based interactive interface (WinHSPF)
- A Scenario Analysis Manager (SAM) tool
- A Best Management Practices (BMP) tool
- An interactive database of HSPF model parameters (HSPFParm).
RESPEC’s world-renowned trainers are widely regarded as the leading experts in all operational, software, and application aspects of BASINS and HSPF. Our principal scientists have been involved in BASINS/HSPF for almost 30 years. Working with the EPA since 1981, our training team members are preeminently qualified as the original developers.
Clients use Advanced BASINS/HSPF Training Workshops to:
- Facilitate examining environmental information
- Provide an integrated watershed modeling framework
- Support the analysis of point- and nonpoint-source management alternatives
- Support the development of TMDLs
