Dustin Morin Receives National Recognition for Excellence in Mine Land Reclamation Training

RESPEC’s mine reclamation sector lead Dustin Morin has been honored with the 2025 Dave Bucknam Outstanding Instructor Award from the National Association of Abandoned Mine Land Programs (NAAMLP)—a distinction rarely given outside state or federal agencies.

The Dave Bucknam Award honors the legacy of the late Dave Bucknam, a pioneer in mine reclamation and training. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, mentorship, and commitment to advancing Abandoned Mine Land (AML) training nationwide. Dustin was nominated by Travis Parsons, Deputy Director of West Virginia’s Office of Abandoned Mine Lands, reflecting the respect he’s earned across the regulatory and consulting community.

Dustin has taught with the National Technical Training Program (NTTP) since 2018, serving as Lead Instructor for the AML Reclamation Projects (AREC) course and contributing to program rewrites that continue to shape AML training today. Known for his humor, authenticity, and field experience, Dustin’s courses have inspired countless reclamation professionals nationwide.

Before joining RESPEC in early 2025, Dustin spent more than a decade with the Alabama Department of Labor, as the Mining and Reclamation Division Director where he led reclamation and training initiatives recognized throughout the AML network.

Dustin’s recognition reflects the partnerships and trust RESPEC builds with our public-sector clients. He exemplifies what it means to lead with both technical excellence and heart.
