Barracks Housing and Quality of Life
RESPEC has been improving the quality of life for U.S. military personnel and their families for more than 40 years. We have supported new construction and renovations of barracks including renovations to our own original designs after more than 20 years of use to accommodate a different military complement. The RESPEC Infrastructure team has delivered design solutions for kitchen staff in small, single-barrack kitchens and improved the dining experience in central dining areas for officers and enlisted clubs. The electrical, mechanical, and fire protection systems for the base exchange, commissary, food courts, and other essential stores at the Joint Military Mall within Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) were designed to meet the shopping and essential needs of the airmen, soldiers, families, veterans, guard members, and reservists. Our designs have also included childcare centers, schools, and recreational facilities (including physical fitness and outdoor ski facilities). At the U.S. Department of Defense facilities in Alaska, the RESPEC Infrastructure engineers transformed individual-room barracks with shared restroom facilities to “one-plus-one” suites that include semiprivate and small food-preparation areas. Our utility and facility engineers designed the conversion at JBER from base- and fort-wide district steam heating to local natural-gas heating systems.
