Medical Facilities
RESPEC has provided designs for the construction and renovation of several cold-climate civilian and military hospitals and medical clinic facilities in Alaska. Our structural engineering team has supported several renovations of the Bassett Army Hospital through critical seismic designs for the equipment and utility system improvements. Our support of the Elmendorf Air Force Base (AFB) composite medical facility during the design process included the original central heating plant, groundwater chiller, and fire alarm systems. RESPEC Infrastructure also supported the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the construction of the facility and for updates such as the recent dining room remodel. We provided mechanical engineering services for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing; electrical; fire protection; security; and communications systems at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) regional clinic in Alaska and the connection to the Elmendorf AFB composite medical facility. We designed additional upgrades that included the new uninterruptible power supply (UPS) support for the radiology department of the VA facility. The RESPEC Infrastructure team also has experience with hybrid and standard operatories, pharmacies, laboratories, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT) scanning, and dental services that pertain to military facilities. Our team’s understanding of HVAC and control systems also contributed to the design of the U.S. Coast Guard general administration building and clinic in Ketchikan, Alaska.
