Salton Sea Geothermal System

The Salton Sea hosts one of the most established high-temperature geothermal systems in North America. This presentation traces how the landscape and water history of the basin shaped where and how geothermal development has occurred over the past four decades. We’ll look at the reservoir’s geologic setting, production history, changing shoreline conditions, and what those changes mean for planning wells, infrastructure, and permitting today. Drawing on long-term field experience, our team will share a practical, on-the-ground perspective on working in a geothermal system that is technically challenging and continually evolving at the surface.
