Compressor Facility Expansion

Marshall County, WV
Confidential Client

Client’s objective for this $25 Million project was to increase the capacity of the compressor station by 300 MMSCFD and eliminate the need for methanol anti-freeze additives.

Project Highlights

  • Developed as-built drawings of existing site using 3D laser scanning techniques to develop a point cloud of the as-built facility
  • Transferred point cloud data into CAD Plant 3D to develop piping placement options
  • Provided engineering design services including all structural supports and pipe design for six (6) 100 MMSCFD capacity compressor systems and associated equipment such as slug catchers (natural gas liquid removal system), gas coalescers, gas scrubber, dehydration unties, heat exchangers, glycol regeneration systems, ground flare, and metering station
  • Developed the basis of design and provided equipment selection specifications and purchasing support services.
  • Included above- and underground piping system design with all structural, mechanical, instrumentation and power supply to modify the installation.
  • Completed PSV and flare studies for ~130 PSVs and one 100 MMSDFD capacity open flare system.
  • Developed Issue for Bid (IFB) and Issue for Construction (IFC) documents
  • Performed hazards analysis construction oversight

Benefits (Engineering, Economics, & Environment)

  • Upgrade was completed while facility was fully-operational. Only 5 days of shutdown was required to bring the new facility into service.
  • Over $1M in operational expenses saved by eliminating methanol injection
  • Throughput of NG compression capacity increased from 300 MMSCFD to 600 MMSCFD
