RESPEC PROJECT

HECLA Greens Creek Mine gravel surfaced haul roads require periodic maintenance to ensure that the roads are safe for haul trucks and support vehicles. RESPEC provided laboratory testing on proposed road resurfacing materials to ensure that the quality of rock selected for the resurfacing project would be a serviceable product. Various rock material sources were identified and laboratory testing performed on each sample received in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO testing procedures. Testing performed included sieve analysis, degradation of aggregates, L.A. abrasion testing and fractured faces percentage. The results of the laboratory testing provided HECLA with the information necessary to select the highest quality road resurfacing rock material.
