RESPEC is a leading provider of environmental and stormwater engineering services, including water quality compliance assistance. RESPEC has worked with various departments of transportation for more than a decade and understands the unique challenges these organizations encounter in meeting water quality requirements. RESPEC’s expertise is highly sought after, and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has consistently selected us to develop and implement programs that ensure compliance with CDOT’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) stormwater permit.

RESPEC has aided in revising CDOT’s template documents to comply with the new MS4 permit, updated the Permanent Water Quality (PWQ) section of the CDOT Drainage Design Manual, developed program description documents, assisted with CDOT’s annual reporting, and responded to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s audit. We also inspected several hundred CDOT PWQ structures in 2020 to identify operation and maintenance needs. Through this work, RESPEC has gained valuable insights into typical operation and maintenance issues and developed ideas on minimizing or preventing similar problems through thoughtful design and communication with maintenance and end users.
