Infrastructure That Supports the Shift to 24/7 Response

As Medina County Emergency Service District 1 transitioned from volunteer-based response to full-time, paid staffing, the district needed a fire station designed to support expanded fire and emergency medical services—reliably, safely, and around the clock. Fire Station #11 was developed to meet that need, transforming an undeveloped 2-acre site into a dependable, code-compliant facility built for long-term operations.

Working in close coordination with the project architect, RESPEC provided civil engineering site design and construction support, focusing on the systems that keep emergency facilities functional day and night. Limited access to municipal utilities shaped the site strategy. RESPEC designed an off-site water main extension to ensure adequate supply and a compact on-site lift station to address wastewater needs, balancing operational reliability with constructability and maintenance considerations.

Stormwater management presented another key challenge. With downstream drainage capacity constrained, the site required careful control of runoff. RESPEC designed on-site detention sized to limit post-development runoff to pre-development conditions for a 100-year storm event. To preserve usable space for operations, detention storage was strategically located between public parking and the emergency vehicle drive lane, with controlled outfall conveyed through culverts.

Built for Operations, Designed for the Community

The completed 10,000-square-foot station includes apparatus bays for fire and EMS vehicles, living quarters for first responders, and utility infrastructure designed for durability and long service life. Beyond the building itself, the project delivers infrastructure that supports reliable emergency response, protects neighboring properties from flooding, and gives a growing rural community confidence that help is always close at hand.
