Job Description

RESPEC seeks a Senior Geothermal Geologist to join our Mining & Energy Team.

As a Senior Geothermal Geologist, you will lead and advance geothermal exploration and resource development projects from early prospect generation through drilling, testing, and reservoir characterization. In this role, you will integrate geology with geophysics, geochemistry, and engineering to develop robust conceptual models, reduce subsurface uncertainty, and guide well-targeting decisions that directly influence project success.

The ideal candidate is both a hands-on technical expert and a trusted advisor, capable of interpreting complex subsurface data, managing multidisciplinary workstreams, mentoring junior staff, and communicating clear, defensible recommendations under uncertainty. You will work closely with clients and partners to define exploration strategies, execute field and subsurface programs, and translate geologic insights into actionable steps that support sustainable geothermal development and operations.

We do not accept unsolicited resumes from third-party recruiters

Qualifications

Required:

  • BSc degree in geology, geophysics, earth science, or related field
  • 10+ years of geology experience in geothermal, hydrothermal systems, or closely related subsurface resource industries (e.g., hydrogeology, oil & gas) with demonstrable geothermal project work
  • Demonstrated ability to create and defend conceptual geologic models for geothermal systems including traditional hydrothermal and new advanced geothermal systems and development techniques including EGS, Closed Loop, Superhot, and Hot Sedimenatry Aquifers
  • Experience integrating multidisciplinary datasets (geologic + geochem + geophys + well data)
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills; comfortable communicating uncertainty and risk
  • Experience working in regulated environments, preparing permitting support documents, or interfacing with agencies
  • Strong foundation in geological principles and their impact on well design
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with sound judgment
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record; position requires operating a company or personal vehicle during work hours for business-related travel

Preferred:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in geology, geophysics, earth science, or related field
  • Direct experience with one or more of the following:
    • Geothermal exploration drilling and/or wellsite geology – identifying geohazards, seismic instability, brine chemistry, interpreting mud logs and LWD data, and rock characterization
    • Resource evaluation and development planning for hydrothermal or EGS projects
    • Structural geology in extensional/volcanic terrains; fracture/fault permeability analysis
  • Proficiency with common tools such as:
    • GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS), 3D modeling (Leapfrog, Petrel, Tough2, GoCAD, Move, or Python for  data science)
    • Well log interpretation software and database management
  • Professional licensure or ability to obtain professional licensure
