Mid-Level Geochemist

Job Description

RESPEC seeks an experienced Mid-Level Geochemist to join our team in either our Bozeman, MT or Vancouver, BC, location. Candidates interested in working from other RESPEC office locations including Denver, CO, Reno, NV, and Rapid City, SD are encouraged to apply.

The Mid-Level Geochemist will work closely with RESPEC’s multidisciplinary Mine Water Management Group, including water resources engineers, hydrogeologists, and geochemists, to deliver high-quality technical products that support client project objectives. This position will oversee the management of geochemical and water quality data, participate in geochemical model development, and support development of source zone mitigations at active and closed mine sites.

The ideal candidate will have experience in data analysis, technical reporting, and client presentations, working under the guidance of senior staff. The Mid-Level Geochemist is also expected to demonstrate business development skills commensurate with their level of experience, foster existing client relationships through high-quality deliverables, and contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization by mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in geology, environmental science, or a similar degree with training in chemistry and mineralogy
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in related work, preferably with a mining focus and some consulting experience
  • Ability to manage and analyze data independently and provide guidance to junior staff
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical writing
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and professionally with team members
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record; position requires operating a company or personal vehicle during work hours for business-related travel

Preferred:

  • Experience with:
    • Project management and client interaction
    • Implementing and managing geochemical characterization programs
    • Project experience in geochemical modeling using PHREEQC
    • Broad mine water treatment approaches, both passive and active, including design and bench-scale testing
  • Ability to scale laboratory water treatability studies to field-scale implementation of process designs
  • Experience using code-based software, preferably R, for data management, statistical analysis, and/or data presentation

Additional Information

Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise. The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000. Compensation includes a comprehensive fringe-benefits package. RESPEC is a 100% employee-owned company and employees are eligible for participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) after a qualifying period.
