Urban Stormwater Design
Combining science with civil engineering design, RESPEC’s Land Development team creates planned land developments with stormwater designs that meet strict requirements for controlling and reducing concentrated runoff and damage. For over 30 years, we’ve supported municipalities, agencies, and private developers with solutions to protect public health, property, and the environment, while preventing flooding and the loss of water quality and habitat.
RESPEC’s certified professional engineers lead as a strong liaison between clients and government water-quality agencies for best results.
RESPEC’s team uses watershed-level best management practices (BMPs), both structural and nonstructural, to prevent stormwater pollution. Providing integrated, cost-effective, and practical solutions to protect surface water and groundwater quality, we deliver innovative techniques to convey runoff and reduce runoff volumes and pollutants while helping clients meet local, state, and federal requirements. Experts in urban watershed hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality, the RESPEC team has successfully completed and delivered over 500 urban watershed projects.
RESPEC’s water resource engineers specialize in hydrology and hydraulics planning and design services. We perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling by using the Storm Water Management Model (SWMM), the Hydrologic Engineering Center’s Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) and River Analysis System (HEC-RAS), FLO-2D, and many other programs. Adept at designing infrastructure in urban and high-density urban settings, we factor in public safety, property protection, channel stability, construction costs, multiuse potential, floodplain impacts, environmental constraints, and other stakeholder concerns.
RESPEC’s capabilities include Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for urban stormwater master planning, drainage design, floodplain management, parks and trails requirements, stream restoration, detention and water quality, bridge scour assessment, and transportation drainage. Our solutions include implementing a variety of erosion and sediment control techniques, such as reforestation, permeable pavement, sedimentation ponds, fences, bioswales, infiltration basins, and planters, as well as removing debris and performing cleanup.
