Safe Routes to Schools
RESPEC’s planning team offers extensive experience in designing plans for the Alaska Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program that improve safety, encourage activity, and attract grant funding.
Our experience in working with numerous communities has equipped our team with the technical skills and practical know-how to create customized plans that earn funding. RESPEC initially studies the existing routes within a 1-mile radius of the school building to identify obstacles and hazards. Multipronged outreach programs are then conducted with parents and school administrators to further evaluate the school’s needs. RESPEC also seeks opportunities to integrate our solutions with existing parks and trails master plans for every project. The data gathered are combined with field research to develop a targeted list of practical recommendations.
Our transportation planners and civil engineers excel at helping our clients assess immediate needs and actions. We prioritize infrastructure projects into discrete blocks, which enhances our clients’ ability to obtain funding. Our field-proven approach to SRTS planning has resulted in more than $1 million in grants for our clients and measurably safer school routes for children and their families.
