Principal Hydrotechnical Engineer

Job Description

The principal hydrotechnical engineer will address surface water issues by developing and implementing integrated water management strategies and plans. They will perform water flow estimation, water balance modeling, and water quality predictions in collaboration with our geochemistry team. This role will work closely with mining engineering, geotechnical, geological, hydrogeological, and civil engineering teams to provide comprehensive water management solutions.  You will provide technical support and senior review for mine water management planning, design, permitting, implementation, and monitoring.  This role will lead and manage projects from planning through implementation, ensuring timely and successful completion. Together, we provide niche services to solve complex problems in mine water management. You will be at the forefront of delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients across Canada and internationally.

In this client-facing role, you will enjoy engaging with clients and actively participating in business development activities to expand our services and client base. As a leader within the team, you will work alongside the Director of Mine Water Management and the Water Resources Team Lead, playing a key role in supporting our clients and their water management needs.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geological science, or a related field. A master’s degree or higher preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of consulting experience conducting developing and executing hydrogeological projects in the mining sector in relating to mine water management
  • Professional Registration: Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Professional Geologist (P.Geo) designation or eligibility for registration in British Columbia. Registrations in other provinces/territories or the U.S. would be considered an asset
  • Proficiency in hydrological and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, GoldSim,) and other relevant engineering tools
  • Experience in proposal writing, client presentations, and participation in industry conferences
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, execute, and oversee projects from start to finish
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
