Pioneer Park Railroad Assessment

2020
Fairbanks, Alaska
Fairbanks North Star Borough

The Fairbanks North Star Borough tasked RESPEC with assessing the condition of the Pioneer Park train infrastructure, which runs throughout the park and over several bridges. RESPEC conducted an on-site inspection and provided recommendations for repair and rehabilitation to keep the train operating while funding for a replacement was procured. Our surveyors flew a drone over the existing rails and bridges. Then we scanned the three bridges on the rail system with terrestrial LiDAR (3D scanner). The data acquired from the two systems were combined into a single data set so our civil and structural engineers could analyze the existing infrastructure. We created a final report to document the horizontal and vertical control, methods used, quality assurance, and a TIN (triangulated irregular network) certificate.
