Richardson Highway Access Improvements

This project, located within a four-lane, high-speed section of the Richardson Highway from Milepost 353 to 357, improved safety and capacity while maintaining functionality within the project corridor. The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) contracted RESPEC to design access improvements and a frontage road along 4 miles of the highway. Our design improved the existing frontage road, designed a new frontage road, and limited the direct access to the highway to improve safety and efficiency. Acceleration and deceleration lanes were added at each intersection. Lighting was added at strategic highway access points. Side streets were aligned to provide better intersection angles with the frontage roads, and culverts were installed to improve drainage along the highway. This project was successfully constructed in 2020.
