RESPEC performed an analysis of the sill thickness of a multilevel stone mine that included detailed laboratory testing and numerical modeling. The mine included benching on both the upper and lower levels and, because of the varying topography, required a three-dimensional numerical model of the entire mine extent. The analysis indicated that the proposed sill thickness was overly conservative and could be reduced. The recommended reduced sill thickness has been successfully implemented to allow for recovery of additional reserves at the mine.
