CRH Republic Cement requested RESPEC to conduct a drill-and-blast audit of multiple quarry operations. RESPEC was also requested to propose and manage a continuous improvement process to improve fragmentation, floor control, and wall control.

RESPEC worked with the mining contractors and drill-and-blast subcontractors to collect baseline data on the drill-and-blast operations. The baseline data collection showed a lack of drill control, which caused high variability in explosive distribution in the blasts. RESPEC chose to address drilling control before proposing any blasting design changes. This approach helped the client’s operations improve while improving costs for both CRH Republic Cement and the contract mining operator.
